Scholarship: Tax on stipend challenged
Judge directed the respondents to file their replies within two weeks

Justice Ijazul Ahsan of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday issued a notice to the government and the accountant general on a petition challenging levy of tax on Rs3,000 stipend paid to postgraduate doctors. Judge directed the respondents to file their replies within two weeks. The petitioner said that the accountant general office was deducting 3,000 to 4,000 on stipend paid to PG doctors on order of the federal board of revenue. He said this stipend fall under category of scholarship B and under clause 47 of income tax ordnance 2001.
