Uncontrolled mandis

Letter October 02, 2014
Setting up of animal mandis in a completely random manner can be quite a nuisance

KARACHI: I would like to bring the authorities’ attention to a very common problem that persists during the days leading up to Eidul Azha, that of the setting of unauthorised or independent little mandis that pop up on every other corner in Karachi. I do not mean to put a dampener on anyone’s celebration of Eid neither do I wish to stop the people who come to Karachi from rural areas of the country to sell their animals. However, setting up of animal mandis in a completely random manner can be quite a nuisance.

No cleanliness whatsoever is observed (which is very problematic, especially in residential areas) and the animals often run amok leading to property damage. There are frequent roadblocks as these mandis occupy busy streets and can also lead to a security lapse. The authorities concerned need to regulate such mandis.
