Keeping check: Officials review Sunday Bazaars prices

LAHORE: Teams of the city district government visited Sunday Bazaars at Johar Town, Model Town, Wahdat Colony, Shadman, Gulshan-i-Ravi and Begum Kot. They imposed fines on several shopkeepers for selling substandard items and for overcharging customers. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Muhammad Usman reprimanded the livestock district officer for not bringing meat to the Gulshan-i-Ravi Sunday bazaar on time. The DCO directed the officials concerned to ensure the availability of commodities daily-use at Sunday bazaars. According to the city government, eight Sunday Bazaars were established in the city. The prices of 33 vegetables rose as compared to last week and the price of one vegetable declined. The prices of 20 fruits rose and of five came down. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also chaired a meeting on Sunday to review the arrangements made at Sunday Bazaars. He said that officials should ensure a steady supply of edibles at the bazaars to ensure the stability of prices. He warned officials not to neglect their duties, otherwise stern action would be taken against them. Flood Minister Bilal Yasin also attended the meeting.
