Reiterating his demand for the creation of new administrative units, MQM chief refuted the allegations that he wants to disintegrate Sindh.
Addressing the MQM General Workers Convention, Altaf said, “Sindh is my motherland.”
Altaf asked, “Why Sindh can not be divided into East, West, North and South zones?”
Adding that, “By creating new administrative units no province or country disintegrates.”
MQM chief invited intellectuals from Sindh to come forward and resolve the matter peacefully.
He further claimed that except few Sindhi nationalists and PPP leaders, rest of the educated and hardworking Sindhi population is with him.
Establishment should clear its position
MQM chief asked establishment to come out and clarify whether they want to treat Urdu speaking as equal citizen or not.
“Just tell us clearly, if you do not want to treat us as equal citizens of Pakistan,” asked Altaf.
Accusing the establishment of not letting him to work freely, Altaf said whenever he tries to re-organise his party and try to bring good people on fore front, the establishment starts operating against MQM.
“Whenever I try to kick out the agents of establishment, who have penetrated the ranks of MQM, the establishment starts targeting MQM so I could not expel such element from my party,” MQM chief claimed.
He alleged that establishment has always tried to achieve minus-Altaf formula in MQM.
MQM to stage sit in
Referring to the on going sit-in by protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in Islamabad, MQM chief asked whether people accused of breaking into Pakistan Television (PTV) building were charged for treason?.
He claimed that if it was MQM, instead of PTI and PAT, they would have never been allowed to enter Islamabad.
MQM announced to stage a sit-in for prosperity and unity of Pakistan, once sit-ins by PAT and PTI ends.
He further said that MQM has transformed from Muhajir Qaumi Movement to Muttahida Qaumi Movement and have representation in other provinces including Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa, Gilgit-Baltistan. MQM chief alleged that the establishment does not want people to unite under the MQM’s flag.
Quota System
Once again repeating his demand for the abolishment of Quota system in Sindh, MQM chief said late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had introduced quota system for 10 years, in order to bring rural areas at par with urban areas. Although the system was supposed to be abolished after 10 years, however even after 42 years the system is still is there.

The reason for call of separate province is, essentially, that Karachi is being misgoverned - due to the ineptitude, corruption, and callousness of the PPP. Yet the reason for counter-call against separation, is that interior Sindh is so much poorer than Karachi - which is again, essentially, due to the ineptitude, corruption, and callousness of the PPP. The root of the problem? You decide.
@KK Kool... Why not Sindh Cheif Minister, Educattion Minister, Interior minister establish universities, hospitals, schools, in Larkana, Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur. Why not they make roads in Tharparkar, make hospitals and school. You said it right, Agha Khan Hospital Karachi University, SMC, DMC, IBA - the standard of service and education is far better and superior than in the constitencies whre Sindhi leaders take vote. The basic point is that the Sindh dispensation is dis-functional.Rural Elite ruling Urban Sindh. Urban centers have to be Goverened by their representatives.

When Musharraf restructured the system so that power went down the ladder.......what resulted was that loot and plunder became more localised ...... the people were left the same. Call it administrative units or separate provinces, matter not. What matters is that the system must be responsive to the wishes of the people ..... and the people should not be coerced into accepting the wishes of the politicians ( as it happening right now )

Steering clear of the love and hate debate going on in the comments, the very basic need of the hour is creation of more provinces throughout the country. I disagree with the formula, because i believe the provinces should be much smaller, more to the size of each district. They should have full autonomy, except for the defence, foreign affairs departments. And maybe some oversight over the monetary issues. Religion should be separated from the state and ethnic preferences should be abolished as new formed laws by the federal government. Taking it further, the federal allocated money should be distributed according to area of each province and a special fund on top of the original monies, should be allocated for the backward provinces, which should be decided by the usage of basic amenities and per capita income. I am open to suggestions, but this if followed in letter and spirit is the only way to bring progress to this country

The Urdu speaking community is the largest victim of lawlessness created by MQM. They need to support the law enforcement community who are trying to clean up Karachi. If they don't, then nothing will change...

ET gives coverage to MQM but it did not give any coverage to Sindhi Writers and Thinkers Sindh Unity rally held at Clifton Karachi today. This is not fair Journalism. Plz let the voice of other side be heard. As a Sindhi, we can give our life, but we wont allow ABC to divide our land, we are united on this cause, we forget our political, social and religious differences and unite against any one who talks about division of Sindh. Note that, Sindh became part of this federation, and our forefathers passed historic Sindh Assembly resolution in 1943 in favor of Pakistan. We welcomed millions of immigrants to our land, they are our brothers, they can live with us on our land and with unity and brotherhood, we will prosper and make Sindh a developed province of our beloved country Pakistan, but if they conspire to divide Sindh, we will oppose them democratically. If they are not happy in Sindh, they are free to go to any other part of Pakistan and demand province for them.

@Hyderabad wala: There is a state for Urdu Speakers in India UP already so you can consider shifting there if you want a Separate state for One language speakers as it is not possible in Karachi since many Non Urdu speakers live here as well. Also I would like to end the Discrimination and Collusion of Government officers from Karachi who forced every Big Corporation in the past to set up their corporate head quarters in one city only and neglected the rest of Pakistan. Almost all big Corporations have their headquarters in Karachi and all the big corporate jobs positions are specifically given to the people of One Ethnic origin. I hope government will end this discrimination by shifting the headquarters of all corporations throughout Pakistan to end the financial blackmailing and coercion of one party.

i have faced discrimination. It about time this party apart from all its flaws stands up for rights of Urban Sindhis. It would be great service if they are awakened from their slumber after seven years and they work for the betterment of Urban Sindh giving their inhabitants their due rights. I know discrimination which is faced esp in armed forces and govt depts. As i have gone through it as a son of a retired govt servant. A good speech after seven years.

Yes I agree that there should be more administrative units in Sindh but the way Altaf Hussain abused the army today, was entirely unacceptable, especially considering the crucial stage they're in in N. Waziristan. He must apologize publicly.

@Urban Legend: The real citizens of Karachi are Memons, Parsis, Anglo Indians, Marwaris, Gujratis, Makranis and Sindhis. They were about hundred to hundred fifty thousands at the time independence. The rest came from other parts of India and Pakistan in search of better life. No Economic refugee can claim superiority over others, irrespective of their number or unity.

What discrimination? I am an Urdu speaking living in Karachi yet I don't face any discrimination. Is action against criminals who are affiliated with MQM a discrimination against urdu speaking?
