Deadly disease: Man diagnosed with naegleria

KARACHI:

A man has been diagnosed with Naegleria Fowleri. Health services director Dr Zafar Ijaz confirmed that Muhammad Dawood Iqbal, a 67-year old resident of KDA Officers Society, was diagnosed three days ago and admitted to Aga Khan University Hospital.

He added that the health department had collected water samples from the area and found a chlorine deficiency at the mosque near Iqbal’s house. The area is near Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s (KWSB) filter plant, raising questions about the board’s efficiency. KWSB claims it is spending Rs13 million to maintain chlorine levels.
