Fraud: ‘Fake pir’ arrested

Mushtaq said the trio had cheated his niece, Samina, out of gold ornaments and cash.

ISLAMABAD:


Shalimar police on Friday arrested a “fake pir” along with his two accomplices who used to swindle the people of cash and ornaments, the police said.


Malik Muhammad Mushtaq, a resident of Chauntra, lodged a complaint with the police against the pir, Syed Tanveer Hussain Shah, and his two accomplices: Kashif Ali and Lubna.


Mushtaq said the trio had cheated his niece, Samina, out of gold ornaments and cash. The pir tricked Samina in the name of heeling.


The police registered a case against the trio under sections 384 (punishment for extortion), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 109 (punishment of abetment) and 34 (common intention).


Following the regirstration of a first investigation report, the police raided their hideout and arrested the pir and his accomplices. Further investigation into the case is under way, sources at the police station said.
