Hangu police constable Niaz Muhammad sacrificed his life on Wednesday while trying to rescue a citizen who had fallen in a well. The person Niaz was trying to rescue did not survive.

IGP Nasir Khan Durrani paid tribute to the martyred constable, said a press statement issued on Thursday.

Niaz was on routine patrol when he heard a cry from a nearby house. He rushed to the scene with his colleagues where a woman said her son Alam Said had fallen in a well.

Niaz jumped into the well to rescue the victim, despite repeated warnings from locals.

Unfortunately both the constable and the victim died as poisonous gas had accumulated at the bottom of the well.

According to the statement, Durrani said the entire police force is proud of the constable, Niaz Muhammad. Durrani added the K-P police are committed to serving and protecting the people of the province.
