
An anti-corruption court on Tuesday jailed a contractor for embezzling millions of rupees. Nazeer Afzal, a contractor for the Food Department, was accused of embezzling millions of rupees allocated for wheat procurement. The Anti-Corruption Department had registered a case against him in 1998. A challan had been submitted against him earlier. Afzal was handed down a five-year jail term and fined Rs50,000. Eight other accused were acquitted given the benefit of doubt.
