KARACHI:

Teachers at the Karachi University announced on Friday to keep academic activities suspended until the police arrest the culprits behind the killing of the Islamic Studies faculty dean, Dr Shakil Auj. "We believe that the only way of providing protection to the inhabitants of this lawless city is to arrest the culprits and punish them according to the law," said Moiz Khan, the secretary of Karachi University Teachers' Society. "The university has lost two of its deans within a year at the hands of target killers, who seem to be roaming the streets unopposed." He was talking to the media, following the emergency meeting of the teachers' society executive council. The meeting, along with the demand of tracing and punishing the culprits, also called for the Sindh government to pay Rs20 million in compensation to the family of Auj.
