The batting maestro, who was a part of the 1992 World Cup winning team, recalled the celebrations witnessed after Pakistan won the mega event 22 years back.
“The World Cup is important for any country because winning it gives you a place in the record books and simultaneously lifts the spirits of your whole country,” said Miandad while speaking at the Mazar-e-Quaid.
“When we won it in 1992, everyone said that the celebrations were the biggest after Pakistan’s independence. Such was the impact of our victory.
“Our team’s primary focus should be the upcoming World Cup and they can take inspiration from the 1992 win. We have a good squad and the entire country will pray for their success.”
The ICC World Cup trophy is currently touring Karachi, where it has been presented at various venues and received by former stars.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s newly appointed T20 captain Shahid Afridi has said that the players will pitch in their best efforts to give a World Cup-winning performance next year in Australia and New Zealand.
“All the players will try their best to win,” said Afridi while speaking to the media.
“We have a very good side which has the ability to reach the target.”
