The premier is expected to focus on cooperation-based relationship with neighbouring countries, India and Afghanistan, in his speech. He is also expected to highlight the Kashmir issue at the general assembly.
On the side-lines of the UN General Assembly session, Prime Minister Nawaz will participate in an energy conference will explore ways to acquire energy through non-conventional sources. The premiers of Norway and Denmark are also expected to attend te conference.
Along with the US vice president and Japanese prime minister, the premier will co-chair a peace conference to review cooperation among international friends.
He will also participate in a meeting on reforms in the United Nations, where he is expected to underline the need for harmonising the UN Security Council with new global demands.
The premier will return to the country on September 27 along with his entourage of 14 people, including security personnel.
Meanwhile, the foriegn office spokesperson said on Thursday that the "It has been a longstanding practice to participate in the high level segment of UN general assembly at the leadership level and to make a policy statement which projects Pakistan’s perspective on vital issues of our interest."

Mian Nawasharief is fighting for his job in Pakistan & in New york he will be speaking to the World, he should not expect any good relationship from Modi as he knows well that Modi belongs to hard core Hindu Group who killed thousands of Muslims in Gujrat. He will not show any sign of freienship with Pakistan. pakistan needs stong stand on Kashmir issue & Sind Tass agreement violation by India. The hard reality is that people are putting their support behind Imran Khan....they are fed up of these corrupt arrogant leaders who manipulate the system to benefit themselves with total disrespect for the majority of the population...so as that gentleman who was part of the group of passengers that forced a PLM MNA and Rehman Malik off the Pia flight from Karachi to Islamabad, for keeping plane and passengers waiting for 2 hours, put it "you people need to become human" On the 16th September PM's daughter Maryam, wife and others flew to London....on board Maryam requested crew to upgrade her maid from economy to Business class, the captain on hearing this refused to take off until the maid had returned to economy....if you didn't know PIA is a state run company which depends on tax payers money to keep it afloat....if she wanted her maid to Travel business she should have bought her the appropriate ticket but...NO...like daughter like father she thought she could get away with an upgrade at tax payers expense! And by the way I have met quite a few people who voted for Nawaz Sharif in the last election and are now totally ashamed and embarrassed that they did so...with all the exposure and evidence incriminating the PM you should be too!

NS will raise the Kashmir issue on 26th September and on 27th September Modi will raise the epicenter of terrorism issue in Pakistan. Expect some extra punches from Modi this time in response to your Kashmir issue. Modi does not mice words raising real issues. He confronted even Chinese President in Delhi on all the outstanding issues and mentioned it all in his joint press briefing. Even Obama is going to get some straight talk from Modi.
