Wash dark colors together
To prevent dark colours from fading, wash similar hues together. A person who has ever washed one red shirt with an entire load of white must have witnessed colours fading away.
Turn clothes inside out
Washing and drying clothing is rough on the outside of your clothing. Turn your garments inside out before doing the laundry and also when you hang them outside to dry them. The sun rays have the tendency to fade out the colour of the clothes.
Don’t stuff the washing machine
Stuffing the washer is tempting but what we don’t know is that doing so makes the machine work harder and that’s tough on our clothes. Clothes need to move freely when being washed, as well as when they are being dried.
Wash in cold water
If you want to prevent fading from your coloured clothing, wash them in cold water. Detergents do as well in cold water as they do in hot or warm.
Don’t over dry
Over drying will cause the colours to fade. Set a timer and make sure you go back to check up on them on time. Clothes should be a little damp when you pull them out of the dryer.
Add vinegar
Adding a cup to your washing machine will not only soften your laundry, but also help prevent colours from fading. Don’t worry, the vinegar smell dies out during the wash.
Use gentle detergent
If you are still worried about the durability of your clothes and want to take further precautionary steps to avoid the colours of your clothes from fading, then there are many detergents available that are formulated to prevent fading and colour loss.
