Ambushed: FC khateeb gunned down in Nasir Bagh

Separately, Badhaber SHO’s gunman succumbed to injuries after getting shot in a raid.

PESHAWAR/ JAMRUD: A prayer leader of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) was allegedly gunned down by unidentified assailants in Nasir Bagh on Sunday morning.

According to the police, Maulana Qari Javed Afridi, a resident of Mullagori, Khyber Agency, was shot dead on his way home from Ghundai Pump House.

“The FC khateeb lived in Hayatabad, Phase 5, near the FC headquarters,” said a police official.

The body was taken to Hayatabad Medical Complex for a post-mortem. His funeral prayers were offered in his native village of Ghundai. Afridi is survived by a wife, two sons and a daughter.

Maulana Qari Javed Afridi was a senior nazim of 17 seminaries and leader of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat. He had also served as adviser to Pir Noorul Haq Qadri, former MNA and federal minister for Ushr and Zakat.

The seminary’s students will protest the killing at Karkhano Phatak on September 15 (today).

SHO’s gunman killed

Badhaber SHO Fazle Wahid’s gunman died in an exchange of fire with family members of proclaimed offenders in Kaga Wala on Sunday. The gunman was identified as Afrasiab.

The Badhaber police conducted a raid in Kaga Wala village and arrested a proclaimed offender identified as Zahidullah.

“The man was being shifted to the police station when his family members and friends attacked the police and forcibly released him from their custody,” said an official of the station. The assailants shot the SHO’s gunman in retaliation for taking their relative.

Afrasiab was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). “He was initially taken to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH),” said the police official. “However, there was no doctor on duty for an hour so we decided to shift him to CMH.”

By evening, it was reported the gunman died after he was operated upon.
