KARACHI:

Two suspected members of a gang and an alleged criminal were killed in two separate encounters in different parts of the city.

The two alleged members of a Lyari-based gang were killed in an alleged encounter with the police in Chakiwara on Friday night. Police officials said that the encounter took place when they raided the gangsters' hideout. They faced massive resistance and in the retaliatory fire by the police, the two suspects were killed on the spot. The bodies were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi.

Both the suspects were associated with the Uzair Jan Baloch group. They were identified as Danish and Daniyal. Police also claimed to have seized a hand grenade and pistols from their possession.

SSP Sheeraz Nazeer said that the suspects were involved in the murder of a police constable, Babar, who was posted to Kalri police station, the kidnapping of a trader from Preedy as well as several cases of target killings and extortion. Sources claimed that the suspects were also involved in the hand grenade attack on Friday night, which left at least seven people injured.

Separately, a suspect was killed in an encounter with the police near Siddiqabad graveyard in Sector B, New Karachi.

The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was later identified as Ishaq alias Kaku, son of Shahbaz. New Karachi Industrial Area police officials claimed that he was wanted by the police in various cases of crime and the encounter took place when the suspect and his companion were looting citizens. His companion managed, however, to escape.
