Title-holder Asjad wins on day of upsets

Asif, Akbar, Shehzad crash out of national snooker event.

Defending champion Asjad Iqbal continued his winning form at the 6th NBP Ranking Snooker Championship 2014 as he defeated Farhan Noor 4-2 in a Group C match on Friday.


However, the day saw four major upsets; including former IBSF world champion Muhammad Asif’s 4-1 loss to Zulfiqar Qadir in Group G and Yasir Shehzad of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) registered a 4-1 victory over Pakistan’s U21 champion Hamza Akbar in Group B. Punjab’s Muhammad Yousuf stunned Sindh’s Sohail Shehzad 4-3 in a close Group D match, while Babar Masih outplayed former national champion Imran Shehzad 4-1.

In other matches, Muhammad Asif Toba defeated Khizar Aziz, Khurram Agha outclassed K-P’s Aakash Rafique and Abdul Sattar defeated Sharjeel Mehmood, all with a scoreline of 4-1.

And Rambail Gul defeated Islamabad’s Sharam Changezi 4-2 in Group E.
