NA-149: LHC declines appointing judicial officers as ROs for by-polls
The seat fell vacant after PTI President Javed Hashmi resigned from Parliament
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday declined a request to appoint judicial officials as returning officers for by-elections in NA-149 Multan, Express News reported.
In the wake of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Javed Hashmi’s resignation from Parliament, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will hold by-polls for the seat. The LHC today wrote a letter to the ECP and informed the commission of its decision.
Javed Hashmi had resigned from Parliament on September 3.
Speaking at a joint session of Parliament, Hashmi said he had not given his resignation ‘willingly’, but did so in order to follow PTI's decision to quit the National Assembly.
