The actors have previously worked together six years ago and are looking forward to doing so again.
The story of ‘Welcome 2 Karachi’ explores how two adventurers find themselves in the port city amid the current political instability, said the Times of India.
When asked why Karachi was the chosen one, director Rohit Shetty disclosed to Filmfare, “Karachi when compared to any other place is considered to be the most dangerous city, but it’s the people who make the perception. Good human beings are everywhere and that’s what I would like to show through my film,"
It has not yet been revealed who will play the lead female role, however, both Irrfan and Arshad are set to thrill in the comedy which will hit screens in 2015.

@GP65 Have u seen D day a movie.......... Karachi is not that dark as portrayed
This is a good initiative. We need to show all aspects of Karachi.
We shot this noir movie in Karachi in 2006. It was not easy to shoot with a foreign crew but we managed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1J4K2Tc2sk
@Asad: @N.Siddiqui:
Karara Karachi wala replies !!!!
We Love Khi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Karachi is Paradise and a paradox. Here is a pictorial link to the city with many pages. It is quite similar to Mumbai, I guess. Media perception, indoctrinated by some groups is not true. As safe or as dangerous as any other big city in the world.

Karachi is as dangerous as Mumbai and at the same time as safe as the same city. It is media perception that Karachi is a Dangerous city. More than 20 million people live in the city and this wrong perception is an insult to the cosmopolitan character of the city. It is the commercial, economic, industrial nerve center of the country, pays the largest amount of tax, contributes highest GDP to the country. All the Banks and financial institutions have HQ's in Karachi. The largest industrial Estates of the country e.g SITE, Korangi, F.B area, Port Qasim, International terminal, Karachi Port(Karachi has two ports), all located here. All the media houses are head quartered in Karachi( more than 200). Its GDP is more than 90 billion USD(purchasing power parity). Two new satellite cities DHA city and Bahria town( both about 12000 acres) are coming near Karachi. Has the highest pool of Engineers, doctors, IT people, philanthropists, charity organizations etc. No one sleeps hungry in Karachi due to the charity given and houses for poor people you don't see people sleeping on roads either. Has the largest numbers of universities, colleges, tech-centers, and schools. Above all it has a cosmopolitan character, you will find Parsis, Christians, Hindus, Bohris, Agha Khanis, in the city. And people of all sects, race, color and creed. Viva Karachi
Bollywood has never been good at projecting any part of Pakistan in their movies. They should at least visit Karachi to make it look like real
@Lion King: you stopped watching movies but didn't stop describing facts about them ! yout info is outdated my friend !
@ Daniyal Siddiqui: That's what they say ... but not do ever...
@Munazza: "There is no such thing as bad publicity" and didn't you read the articlee? It said they wanted to portray the good side of karachi.
@Gp65: I have said this because Indian movies have always portrayed Pakistan in a negative light.
I havent seen these movies but i know they have been flmed in indian cities. my point is that they have no right to ridicule any of the Pakistani cities, still plenty of indian cities left and once they are through they can start all over again.
@Munazza: Have you seen Ishqiya, Dedh Ishqiya, Shoot out at Lokhanwala, Shootout at Wadala! One upon a time in mumbai, once upon a time in mumbai dubara?
@Bablu: Even a movie based on Mohsin Hamid's book'The reluctant fundamentalist' had to be shot in India though Mira Nair wanted to shoot it in Pakistan because she simply could not get insurance for the international artistes. So quite unlikely that this mie wod be shot in Karachi.
@Pity:
Why such a pessimistic assumption considering that the director iRohit Shetty is saying he wants to show the exact opposite? Also why do you make assumptions aomut what the Indian audience wants to see? My Name is Khan was a big hit. Of course if it is a movie about the underworld like shootout at Lokhandwala was, some dark aspects would naturally be shown.
@Munazza:
They have also made movies on Mumbai e.g. Shoot out at Lokhandwala. There are many other movies about the 90s when the criminal activity had risen high especially extortion threats and gang wars.
In Indian movies they show Pakistanis to be short and dark complexioned as opposed to the reality. When they show Pakistan they show like dirty alleys with hordes of shalwar qameez and weird cap wearing bearded men going aimlessly in all directions.
It's been years though I have stopped watching Indian movies due to the frivolousness of the concept and contents and cheap bag new actors and actresses
Forget about Karachi's vibrant culture, they are definitely going to show only the dark side of Karachi which their audience wants to see.
How is it possible that people of a city are good one , but the city is a dangerous ones ? It is the people who make the city . Similar contradictions arise when you link religion and extremism . How can a religion be a good one when its followers are bad one and vice versa .
irfan has been replaced by jackie bhagnani.
Its a shame that Pakistanis cannot make a movie showing how Karachi is but we need Indians to do it.
Zameer bilkul mar gaya hae. We are just busy in copying vulgarity & nudity.
Ujj, its people like you who create this wrong perception about the city. Karachi is home to more than 20 million people from not just all over Pakistan, but also other parts of the world. Contrary to popular perception, the citizens of Karachi have a very active lifestyle, and the city is also home to almost all large and medium sized media organizations operating in Pakistan, and most of the drama productions that you watch on your television are made in Karachi. Several foreign consulates also hold regular seminars and festivals in their premises including the Goethe and Alliance de Francais together with the Pak American Cultural Centre and British Council. Karachi is also home to the largest concentration of five and four star hotels in the country, and several multinationals and local enterprises. Nearly each and every foreign franchise has its set up in the city.
Just a few weeks ago, all the embassies in Islamabad asked their staff to leave for Karachi for safety. In Karachi, we do not hear about Lal Masjid styled establishments, or police storming the offices of charity and political organizations either. Yes, Karachi does have its share of problems, and most of them have been induced by the citadels of Raiwand, Larkana, Peshawar and Dera Bugti. Moreover, the Pakistani armed forces have strategic bases in the city, and the airport is the largest and most efficient in Pakistan. You certainly would not be asked for any bribes when passing through customs or while travelling.
They should come to Karachi and take the help of artists already working on such topics. I am looking forward to this film. The title is awesome.
Arshad Warsi and Irrfan Khan........AND KARACHI a combination that has to succeed.
Why are they choosing Karachi, dont they have any city of India to cover, who gave them the right to ridicule our city
Comedies in Bollywood are rarely done well these days but these two great actors will surely save the film, especially Irfan with his Nana Patekar style serious looks in a funny situation. With Rohait Shetty on-board we will probably see (atleast) half a dozen cars flying about throughout the film....So we know it's not gonna be cheap. Looking forward to it.
@karachi There is 24*7 shootings at Karachi
@Ujj: They'll erect sets of various Karachi landmarks for the shooting. They dare not shoot in Karachi. Some background shots maybe but I can't imagine them shooting with a full ensemble.
the purpose of the movie is lost if its not shot in Karachi. No other city can be a replacement for Karachi
Sadly they're not going to shoot the movie in Karachi, they're most likely going to film it in Bombay or some other town in India and pass it off as 'karachi'.
Do the film but don't try to shoot in Karachi otherwise you guys will have to reborn to complete the film...best of luck
