Former Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) member Justice (retd) Riaz Kayani on Wednesday served a legal notice to Afzal Khan, a former additional secretary of the ECP who alleged that Kayani helped the ruling party in rigging last year’s polls.
In a three-page notice delivered by his lawyer Saleem Shahnazi, Kayani asked Khan to tender a public apology within 15 days or pay Rs20 million in damages.
Khan had alleged that an entire cadre of judges, journalists and election officials were responsible for rigging last year’s elections.
Responding to the accusations, Kayani’s lawyer stated that about 60 retired judges of the Superior Judiciary were drawing pension under the law in force at that time and his client was not an exception.
