LAHORE:

Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought reply from federal government and the Election Commission on an appeal challenging an amendment in the presidential election rules made during the Musharraf era.

Advocate Azhar Siddique had filed an intra-court appeal against the dismissal of his petition. A division bench headed by Justice Ijazul Ahsan took up the appeal. The lawyer said the amendment was made to benefit Musharraf in the 2007 presidential election. “The provisions of Articles 62 and 63 are applicable to all elections, including presidential election. The amendment was unconstitutional and aimed at favouring Musharraf,” he said. The bench issued notices to respondents for the last week of September.
