Neelam-Jhelum surcharge: LHC seeks details from WAPDA

Justice Shujaat passes orders on various petitions filed by industrial and domestic power consumers

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought details from the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) regarding Neelam-Jhelum surcharge amount, till November 7. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan passed the orders on various petitions filed by industrial and domestic power consumers including Sitara Chemical industries against Neelum-Jhelum surcharge. Earlier, the petitioners’ counsel arguing before the court submitted that it was an unconstitutional move on part of WAPDA authorities to get money from the public for power projects. They further submitted that the citizens had paid a large amount as surcharge till now but the project details including amount received in this regard were not made public. The court after hearing arguments sought details about Neelam-Jhelum surcharge amount and adjourned matter till November 7.
