KARACHI:

The fashion world has its own charms and you can easily fall for them. No wonder, Noore Bhatti dropped the hat of the girl-next-door and chose to enter the world of glitz and glamour, and so far, she has been ruling the ramps.

“It just happened to me. My older sister Sadaf Pervez was a well-known model and she knew many people in the fashion industry but back then I was busy with school and not really interested,” Bhatti tells The Express Tribune.

However one summer, the well known photographer Khawar Riaz offered to take some pictures of Bhatti for the sake of decorating her house and one of them landed onto the cover of a magazine. “There was no looking back from there on. Still it was never my dream to enter this industry, it just happened.”

Since then she went on to work with reputable names like Rizwan Beyg, Umar Sayeed, Nilofer Shahid, Deepak Perwani, Karma, Maria B and Amir Adnan to name a few.

“Initially I loved modeling for print,” she recalls. “But everything changed once I walked on the ramp. The adrenaline rush you get while sashaying down the ramp to deliver a designers vision within a matter of minutes is just indescribable. It’s a lot of fun!”

Over the eight years that she has been around, Bhatti has been featured in countless fashion shows and did photoshoots for many different brands. But for the diva, her best hasn’t arrived as yet.

“I don’t think I have given my best as yet. There’s so much that I’d like to explore and be a part of that it is too early to say anything conclusive. I have worked with some of the best designers, photographers and make-up artists in the world and all of them have a special place in my heart.”

This 2014 Lux Style Awards (LSA) marks the fourth time that Bhatti got nominated for the Best Female Model category but despite an impressive portfolio she has not won a single LSA as yet.

“Speaking for myself, I think it takes a lot of diligence, consistency, passion and drive to be the best at what you do in anything in life, not just modeling. This mentality has helped me achieve my goals throughout my life. I feel honoured competing against some of our best models. So again, we’ll just have to wait and see.” She smiles.

Bhatti takes inspiration from the Australian model Elle McPherson and believes that even if she could achieve half as much as McPherson did in her career, that Bhatti would be a satisfied with herself.

“She has achieved so much not just as a model but in every career she chose and apart from that just see how she looks at the age of 50,” Bhatti exclaims.

For Bhatti, modeling was more of a family profession. However, there are a lot of young girls out there who look up to her as an inspiration but don’t necessarily have the family support that she had. After all, modeling is still a tabooed profession in Pakistan.

“A woman should be strong and that can only be possible if you are comfortable with your own existence. Of course, you’ll have to face a lot of criticism but keep the plus points in mind and follow your heart.”
