Embezzlement case: Court grants bail to ex-AG

They said they had not taken bribes and allegations against them were baseless.

LAHORE: A banking court granted pre-arrest bail to former acting accountant general and assistant accountant general in an embezzlement case. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a case against Zahid Rasheed Rana and Taimur Bukhari under charges of taking bribes and embezzling millions of rupees from the population welfare and walled city departments’ funds. FIA seized 21 payment bills amounting to Rs360 million of both departments from the accused. Twelve fake stamps were also seized. Rana and Bukhari told the court that they had been wrongly implicated in the case and said the petition against them should be dismissed because they petitioners could not prove the allegations against them. They said they had not taken bribes and allegations against them were baseless.
