Demonstrations shouldn’t mean that few hundred people can oust elected PM, says MQM’s deputy convener

HYDERABAD:

In a rare show of support, MQM’s deputy convener MNA Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi has said that his party acknowledges Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s right to rule the country.

“If people have complaints against the government, they have a right to protest but the demonstrations shouldn’t mean that a few hundred people can oust an elected prime minister,” he said while talking to the media on Sunday.

In a veiled attack, the MQM leader criticised PTI for seeking Nawaz’s resignation. Anti-government protesters gathered in the heart of Islamabad have been asking for the PM’s resignation and have refused to budge until he steps down.

PTI chief Imran Khan has also threatened to drag Nawaz to the Supreme Court to seek his disqualification.

Taking a swipe at the government, Siddiqi said that political parties in power are not ‘friendly’ towards the people.

PTI/IK are experts at harming the economy. First they held sit-ins to protest drones, and destroyed the occupation of many transporters. Now tthey are trying to really hurt the economy of the nation. All these meals that they have been serving to the people doing sit-in could have gone to IDPs,and much more useful. But the stubborn attitude of IK is going to completely ruin it.
