Resignation accepted: Javed Hashmi’s seat falls vacant

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has sent the notification to the election commission

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Thursday accepted the resignation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ex-president Javed Hashmi, leaving the NA-149 constituency in Multan vacant.


Speaker Sadiq sent the notification to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after accepting Hashmi’s resignation.

The ex-PTI president had been elected to the National Assembly from NA-149 constituency in Multan.

He had served as president of the PTI and tendered his resignation on Monday after making a fiery speech in parliament.

Under Article 224 of the Constitution, the ECP must conduct polls on a vacant seat within 60 days of receiving a notification from National Assembly Secretariat.

According to sources, the ECP is expected to issue a poll schedule within a week.

Hashmi had contested elections from NA-48 Islamabad-I and NA-149 Multan-II and
remained victorious at both the constituencies. He decided to keep NA-149 Multan-II seat.

In Multan he had defeated Sheikh Muhammad Tariq Rasheed of PML-N by getting 83,640 winning votes against 73,898 votes polled in favour of Rasheed.

Hashmi has won the Islamabad based NA-48 seat by securing 32,533 votes. He beat Anjum Aqeel Khan of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) who had secured 13,861.

kindly correct your record in general elections anjum aqeel secured more than 52000 votes.
