ISLAMABAD: For all those who used to support Zaid Hamid and who are criticising Fasi Zaka on his article ‘Brasstricks’ (April 14), here is some food for thought. He was used as a mouthpiece by the powers that be and he spoke the language of the conservatives. In his many appearances in the media, he would openly support the Afghan Taliban and tell all and sundry how heroic they were and how they had fought the evil Soviet empire. But it all began to change when a top Afghan Taliban leader was reported captured in Karachi. This showed a definite shift in strategy. After that the whole controversy surrounding Mr Hamid came up and this was initiated by the religious right (guess who supports them too)? And that meant the end for Mr Hamid’s innings.
