Growing violence: Militants abduct schoolteacher

According to locals, unidentified armed militants kidnapped Imran Hussain at gunpoint when he was heading back home

A schoolteacher was kidnapped from Ghundi, Jamrud in Khyber Agency late Wednesday night.


According to locals, unidentified armed militants kidnapped Imran Hussain at gunpoint when he was heading back home. He was then shifted to an unidentified location.

Security forces launched a search operation in the area but no arrests were made till the filing of this report. As yet no militant group has claimed responsibility for the abduction.

Lax performance

Nine security officials were suspended by the political administration over poor performance at work.

An official of the political administration said the decision was taken after a fatal attack on a khasadar force check post in Jamrud. The official added the suspended officials were from different cadres. According to locals, attacks on security officials have stepped up in the recent past.

On September 1, unidentified militants stormed a khasadar check post in Jamrud Bazaar, killing one and injuring five officials. Two security guards from the market were arrested by the political administration as the assailants had used the route which passed through the market.
