A resident of the provincial capital publicly announced on Wednesday that he was disowning his son for being involved in militancy.
Haji Hayatullah Khan, who lives in Ahmed Khel and is a retired Frontier Constabulary official, told reporters at Peshawar Press Club that he and his sons Khizar Hayat and Roohullah had nothing to do with anyone involved in anti-state activities.
He then narrated how his other son Misbahullah was suspected to have been kidnapped over two years ago, adding they did not know whether Misbah was even alive or not.
Hayatullah said he arranged the marriages of Khizar and Misbah back in November 2011. However, two months later, someone knocked on their door at night and Misbah went out to answer. Since that day, Misbah has not returned home.
Hayatullah said they searched extensively for Misbah and approached Siphon police checkpoint of Badhaber police station when they could not find him anywhere. The police registered an FIR of Hayat’s missing son and published appeals in newspapers, but no headway was made.
He said the police were now telling him his son was with the Taliban and involved in militant activities in Peshawar.
Hayat said he himself was picked up from a masjid on July 20 this year, after which he was blindfolded and taken to different places while law enforcers also searched his house. Other people arrested during the swoop were later released while Hayat was handed over to the security forces who shifted him to Bara, Khyber Agency where he was held for interrogation. Hayat said he was then released on August 23.
Hayat clarified that if Misbah was involved in anti-state activities, then his son was his enemy and the family had nothing to do with him. Hayat also urged authorities to respect the sanctity of his home and to protect their lives.
