KARACHI: When you’re in college, you’re really just starting to develop a wardrobe, a closet full of clothes that will last you four years of university. You want to keep up with trends, but at the same time, you want clothes that won’t be out of fashion next season.

Girls, we have for you the definitive guide to what every college girl should have in her wardrobe.

White kurta

Every magazine, fashion blog and even your mother was right — having a simple white kurta in your closet is a crucial arrow in your fashion quiver. Look for a well-tailored, full sleeves kurta, something that fits you well — a relatively bigger size would do too. “White kurta is a classic and a must-have. I literally have about 20 Chicken Kari kurtas. They can be paired with printed leggings or cigarette pants — they can be carried in so many different ways. White kurtas are my summer staple,” says designer Shehla Chatoor.

Here are few ways we think you can wear a white kurta:

•  A plain white kurta with printed pants is your go-to option for a casual and trendy day-time look.

•  For a sassy well put-together ensemble, wear your kurta with a bright, playful printed scarf, a sexy pair of strappy flats and a chic top knot.

•  Go all white, head to toe. White kurta paired with white crop pants is the epitome of chic. Straighten your hair or leave them big and bouncy — whatever style you prefer. Throw in a necklace or two for the final touches.

Ballet flats and thong flats

Whether simple or embellished with studs, ballet flats are amazing and always on trend. Ballet flats are versatile and comfortable, you can run in them all day long and wear them to a formal dinner at night. They really are your best bet when transitioning from a day to night look. For casual day time wear during the summers, thong flats look feminine and classy — make sure your feet are manicured though.

Black Leggings

We think leggings are great because they are multifunctional and can be worn with just about anything. Be it a slouched-casual look in a plain t-shirt or button-down or be it lowers for a kurta — leggings are absolute must-haves. In fact, they are even perfect for the gym.

Black pants

Be it crop pants or skinny jeans, we can’t stress enough on how important it is for every girl to have at least two pairs of these in her closet. Instantly lift your outfit’s ante by replacing a churidaar with black crop pants. “A reliable pair of black pants can last you a decade. Totally versatile and can be used for all sorts of occasions. They can go from day to night if you dress them up with heels, a darker lip colour and the right accessories,” says actor and style icon Ayesha Omar.

Well-fitted jeans

You need to figure out which brand fits you well and the kind of denim that suits you the best.  Rotate these through the week.  One of the pairs you get can be wide-legged jeans, they are uber-chic and in vogue these days. “Dressed up or down, well-fitted jeans will make any outfit look chic, whether you’re going for a plain white tee paired with a statement necklace or adding a blazer and killer heels for that extra polish. The three essential rules to keep in mind when buying a pair of jeans are as follows: fit, length and fabric,” suggests Zoyaa Mahmood, a local fashion analyst.

Satchel bag

If you are someone who wants to flaunt the best of fashion in college and be practical at the same time, you need to invest in a trendy satchel bag. They are not only spacious enough to carry your books, stationery and everything else but also on-trend. For those who want to sport a rather geek chic look, try out a satchel bag with sexy thick-rimmed glasses.
