Family courts: Judges need to protect the sanctity of marriage

Director general of the Federal Judicial Academy urges Judges to protect the sanctity of marriage

News Desk September 01, 2014

The director general of the Federal Judicial Academy, Dr Faqir Hussain, has urged judges of family courts to make all possible efforts to convince and counsel estranged parties to reconcile to protect the fundamental institution of the social contract called marriage.

Hussain expressed these views during the inaugural ceremony of a one-week training course on “Management of Family Cases” for judges of family courts from all over Pakistan on Monday.

“The main purpose of family courts is to assist the smooth and effective disposal of cases relating to family matters. Reconciliation is a very vital element to settle disputes and has now been made a mandatory provision of our family law.

However, the provision has not been complied with strictly.”

He said an effective way of tackling the problems is to improve efficiency of the system rather than changing the system altogether.
