High Court moved: Plea filed for PM’s disqualification
Advocate Gohar Nawaz Sindhu contended that prime minister violated the constitution by lying to the nation
LAHORE:
A petition was filed before the Lahore High Court on Saturday seeking to disqualify Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for misleading the nation over the army’s role to resolve the fortnight-long political crisis. In his petition, advocate Gohar Nawaz Sindhu contended that the prime minister violated the Constitution by lying to the nation over the government’s decision to invite the army to play a “facilitative role” in ending the political stalemate in the country. The petitioner said that the Nawaz violated qualifications specified in Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution whereby anyone who defames the army can be barred from public office.
