NEW DELHI:
Protests broke out in Uttar Pradesh’s communally- sensitive district of Muzaffarnagar after four Muslim students were attacked by a group of people in New Delhi’s Jat Colony.
The trouble started when the four youths had gone for tuition classes in the colony on Friday evening. A group of people allegedly attacked them and claimed that they were indulging in eve-teasing, police said. The boys were rescued by the police and were admitted to hospital.
Irate protesters laid siege at a police station demanding action against the miscreants who had beaten up the boys.
Police have registered a case against 150 people for the violence and named three miscreants. Superintendent of police Sarvan Kumar told journalists that some people tried to block the road at Meenakshi Chowk last evening but additional forces were rushed and the situation brought under control.
Security has been tightened and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas in Muzaffarnagar.
The Uttar Pradesh district has witnessed a string of communal incidents since the riots in September last year that left over 60 people dead and hundreds of others displaced.
Tension resurfaced in Muzaffarnagar when cases were registered against 150 people for capitalising on a clash between students where one group was attached for allegedly trying to tease girls of another group.
The incident was a repeat of the riots which broke out a few months ago in the district.

@Rakib: @AKumar is not doubting the veracity of the news item. He is doubting the agenda of ET in picking and choosing articles that portray only one community as being targeted without balancing it with articles about the same community targeting others. I agree with him.
@AKumar: Instead of regretting the message you found fault with the messenger? Amazing. Here is something gratis for you:- If the news is a figment of ET imagination, say so clearly to its Editor. If the news is accurate, thank ET & then write to your MP (if you are an Indian) asking him to take it up with Home Minister.
ET, why did you edit my post and introduce errors and typos.
Too many keyboard warriors from Indian "Hindu rashtra" here.
@Kamal: You are not a Muslim, so don't use a Muslim name.
@Strategic Asset: I'm surprised you find time from your Muslim and Islam bashing to shed tears.
@Sudhindra: Those typos were introduced into my post, and not present originally.
@observer: I am from this area which you said wants self-determination, but we don't. Just like Bangladesh, you are trying to divide Muslims on the basis of race again. Alhamdulilah, Baloch and Pashtoons are proud and strong Muslims and will never be puppets of the enemies of Muslim. Learn the lesson Russia learnt in Afghanistan.
@Bakhtiyar Ghazi Khan:
"he UN and world countries should isolate and sanction India until to respects UN resolutions regarding fair treatment and rights for minorities."
Excellent sentiment. The UN and world countries should also isolate and sanction Pakistan until it respects UN resolutions on human rights and fair treatment of Shia, Ahmadis, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs and most of all the Baloch. The Baloch should be given the right to self-determination.
@Bakhtiyar Ghazi Khan I think you forgot a "T" before the "he UN".
P.S. You forgot a lot of common sense also.
@Bakhtiyar Ghazi Khan: You never fail to bring tears of laughter to my eyes.
@Bakhtiyar Ghazi Khan I find it funny when a Pakistani talks about human rights specially minorities. Can not stop laughing.
Shame on Indian abusing Indian Muslims, Kashmiris, and Pakistanis. Anti-Muslim hatred in India has reached fever pitch.
he UN and world countries should isolate and sanction India until to respects UN resolutions regarding fair treatment and rights for minorities.
Pakistan too is a victim of eve-teasing. Beating up the eve teasers will only strengthen the hands of would be eve teasers to be more violent.
Please say some good things about India too once in a while . Publish some positive articles about the other side of the border. Stop spreading only negativity and despair .
The boys were trying to do a Rotterdam style thing in India?
@Joe A little research nothing else :)
Congress govt was far better than this govt!
I did not find this news anywhere. Cooked-up?
Does Pakistan wants to start a foolish war with India? That would be the end of Pakistan. Pakistan is burning and you are speaking of silly trumped up violations which pretty much routine over the past decades,
Media in Pakistan is bold. Unlike that of the neighborhood. That's why readers from neighbouring country flock to ET and other Pakistani online papers.
Dont worry about UP,look at Islamabad ,which is burning.
Fact is that four boys of a particular community were beaten up by girls in public for eve-teasing in Mujaffarnagar. Read the news at: http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/more-violence-in-muzaffarnagar-tension-prevails-as-students-beaten-up/
Pakistani newspaper have no access to what is happening in their country or they are afraid to report it. Clever journalism to divert the attention of Pak citizens. Keep it up!
Pakistani's are expert in escaping from realities. When they are in problem, they look at other excuse. This article is an example. Pakistan is exploding and they are putting news(in front page) of india. If things go on like this we ll have Syria or Somalia part 2 I.e pakista .
Hindu terrorists keep proving us the value of Pakistan that we gave away to crooks in the name of democracy
whats happening ET? worried about minorities in other country ? check n update whats happening in Islamabad about majorities of ur country, grow up pls.
Is this more important than what going on in islamabad. Now only two PAT worker died .
4 student beaten up in India is more important than what is going on in Islamabad. This is what happens when you don't concentrate on your problem and taken world contract for everyone else except your people.
@Joe: I could not find this news item elsewhere as well. I did some research into ET's reporting standards and they have gone down like ton of bricks. Here is the cause: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/feb/28/liberal-newspaper-express-tribune-silenced-pakistani-taliban
Pakistan's going to implode and ET is worried about 4 boys being beaten up in India. Btw, can't find the news on any Indian channel.
ET, I have been a fan of your newspaper for a very long time because of the high standards you set in regards to issues such as as editorial integrity, non-biased news reporting and most important of all a benchmark for not sensationalizing global events.
However, over the last few months I have noticed a disturbing trend of ET picking and choosing news coverage, especially articles covering India and its minorities. You make it sound as though the entire mass of 200 million Indian Muslims are being systematically discriminated on the basis of their religion on a day to day basis when this is clearly not the case.
I do not know if this is a ploy to distract the local audience of the current events unfolding viz a vie Imran Khan and the street protests or a genuine desire for the welfare of Indian Muslims. In a country of a billion plus people, such events as reported from UP do happen. Please do note though that these are normally one off events - exception not the norm - and cannot be generalized as being representative of the entire country as a whole.
The Indian media are no saints either with coverage about Pakistan primarily revolving around terrorism, plight of non-sunni minorities, ethnic strife and the ISI. Now, most informed Indian viewers know that this is not an accurate description of your great country and I hope that Pakistanis don't think that such events are representative of India either.
Peace
I do not find this news anywhere else. ET please stop fooling people by diverting attention from Islamabad updates.
