Govt asked army chief to mediate crisis, says ISPR spokesperson
In a tweet posted on Twitter, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, "[The] COAS was asked by the Govt to play [a] facilitative role for resolution of current impasse, in yesterday's meeting, at #PM House."
Earlier in day, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar both insinuated that the army had stepped in at the behest of Imran and Qadri, not the government – a claim that denied by both Imran and Qadri.
Army chief General Raheel Sharif was named mediator on Thursday in the standoff between the government and protesters led by Tahirul Qadri and PTI chief Imran Khan.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Ali Nisar Khan told parliament the protesters' unwillingness to trust anyone
"Again and again they said they only trust the army and will only have talks through the army," he said.
"When a group or two parties has no faith in the judiciary, the opposition, lawyers or civil society and has no confidence in anybody, what option remains for the government?"

In the entire history of Pakistan destruction, worst growth, instability and state failure the role of Pakistan Army, its non-visionary policies, propaganda , politicians, corrupt institution and the worst corrupt Nation is dominant. Pakistan must not be consider a stable and successful state until the end of destructive and corrupt role of the mentioned elements. Frankly speaking Pakistan is the land or like a zoo where every one like animal fighting for its survival and where there is no law, religion, faith and rule of law or constitution. Every one wants power, status, luxurious life, dollars at any cost without any accountability, justice and faith. Its truly said the land of animals.

Many Indians would know the name of our Defence Minister. That is the difference between India and Pakistan: Civilian supremacy. It has nothing to do with general knowledge.
Doesn't matter if the PM asked or not. The generals still are in defiance of the constitution of Pakistan and should be tried for high treason. This general's tweet must be taken as evidence. Someone should file a case against him in a court of law.

@Jaffry Syed Mukhtar Ahmad: Imran Khan is still involve in KPK Government, but all the Political Parties were intructing him to step back from Provincial politics earlier in the year. Imran Khan is a member of National Assembly and he is campaigning for electoral reform for all of Pakistan. If you like the results of sham election, I gues you are as corrupt in thought as Nawaz Sharif in financial dealing in a day to day budget.

Credit should be given where it's due,had an opportunist general like Musharraf would have been in place of Gen Raheel then definitely he would have exploited the situation and by now he would have sent the government home,so full marks to General Shareef for remaining remaining steadfast and resisting temptation to take any unconstitutional measure.
@imran ali: Very right and army is the biggest trader in Pakistan (CSD, fouji catering clubs, fouji cement, , FWO chungi collections etc etc). No wonder they were "winning" 1971 war, OBL was not in Pakistan, army was not planning coups in 1958,1977 and 1999, Kargil was fought by mujahideen and election are always held within 90 days after coups.

He's not the spokesman of ISPR, he's Director General of ISPR, the spokesman of Pakistan Army.
Looks like the army didn't expect NS to spill the beans of all the backroom arm-twisting and manipulations that has been going on to bring the army back to centre stage as the ultimate arbiter in pakistan.
If the govt has asked COAS to play the role of mediator according to ISPR. Army spokesman should come out with a press release- a formal way of clarification. Using Twitter ,this make people more confused.

Everyone knows that PML-N is not enjoying happy terms with ISI and Army for last two decades. PML-N would be the last among all other parties to let army intervene. But it had to call for the army because

Govt calling for Army is an "active form" where Imran/Tahir had already called for it: "passive form". So it was Imran/Tahir who had called the army to intervene and met the army COAS immediately afterwards.
Don't act smart by playing with words. We already know who was calling for "Technocrats" and "Third Umpire" for an arbitrator. That is the script...
Imran Khan is an Oxford graduate and I hope he very well understand the difference between Facilitation, Mediation and Arbitration. He is deliberately trying to muddy the water by mixing facilitation with mediation. Dirty politics.
