Students said they were irked by the constant ‘pro-Pakistan cheers’ by the Kashmiri students. The Kashmiri students, however, said they were simply washing their clothes when the incident took place.
Four of the 12 students injured have been admitted to private hospitals. None of them is in critical condition. The students were watching the match in the hostel common room. Some students objected when some of their fellows cheered for the Pakistan team, which in turn led to an altercation. Other students got involved and the two groups reportedly used stones, sticks and any other material they could get their hands on during the fight. Hostel and college property was also vandalised during the fight.
College authorities summoned the police, who brought the students under control.
On Wednesday afternoon, around 30 students, allegedly joined by BJP leaders, blocked the Chandigarh-Ambala national highway for about an hour in protest. SHO Lalru police station Atul Soni said the state-level chief of the BJP Samvad Cell Dhami Sharma and up to 40 unidentified protestors had been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the National Highway Act after their protest on Wednesday.
College principal Dr PD Sharma said the college will remain closed till September 8. He said a complaint had been made to the police but no case has been registered yet. Police say they are verifying the matter and no complaint was lodged by students.

Long live Kashmiri students. PML N should learn a thing or two.
This proves again to the whole world, we Kashmiris are Pakistanis and Muslims. Never will we be Indian
@riya: How long has India been provoking, attacking, raping, torturing, and murdering Kashmiri civilians? 67 years. You can't see even Kashmiris show love for their blood brothers in Pakistanis. Shame on this extremist Hindu state hiding as a democracy.
There must be some catch. If match is not between India Pakistan, there is no big problem cheering for Pakistan. Many people (non kashmiri, non muslims) do support Pakistan in that case.
For God's sake, the match did not even involve India. In Lahore we have openly supported India. My nephew is a fan of Indian team but I have never seen such an animosity. I truly believe that most Indians think Pakistanis are Burqa wielding, extremists mullahs only.
Indian view point :-
1) Pakistan Occupied Kashmir is a Disputed region. same needs to be merged into India.
2) Indians have been told that in school textbook of Pakistani schools it is proudly mentioned that some of the Moughal leaders (Gazhni etc.) had destroyed Hindu temples.
3) Pakistan has always takes the illegal route ( hides Osama, Dawood Ibrahim, creates 27/11 Mumbai attack, grows Opium to support Kashmiri terrorists, ball tampering in cricket etc.).
@pitty, before commenting on this just ask yourself once, would the Pakistanis have tolerated if the Hindus of their country had openly chanted 'Pro-India' slogans during an Indo-Pak cricket match?
@PrasadDeccani, we are as arab as you you Daccanis are aboriginals.
@goggi (Lahore): but then....you are all Arabs; aren't you?
NO MATTER WHAT YOU INDIAN DO PAKISTANI ALWAYS BLEED GREEN.AND J K PEOPLE WE PAKISTANI ALWAYS LOVE YOU AND STAND BY YOU FOR YOUR FREEDOM.GOD BLESS.
Some boys of Jharkhand & Kashmir beat each other up in Punjab & others are worked up! Serious injury is a bad thing but otherwise some rough words, some bruises, some annoying sloganeering, a few insults, some fisticuffs.....all part of growing up. Of what worth a college life without a nicely nasty brawl? Some of the chaps I got in trouble with back then have become & remained good friends! Not worth wasting any emotions on such happenings. Once one is bogged down with the chore of eking out a living for the family all this horsing around will be forgotten.
I do not like the Kashmiri students cheering for Pakistan beaten up. Nor, do I like the Kashmiri students cheering for Pakistan, especially when there is firing at the border and the Hurriyat leaders meet with Pakistan's High Commissioner in Delhi. However, beating the students was not correct.
I have only one word to say that ..Shameful. With Mr. Modi coming to power most of thought that India will truely join the world league of development, good administration, education and health care etc. However it is sad that we are every wasting our time in useless and petty things like whether every Indian should be called Hindu, love jihad, language of communication and activities aimed at dividing communities rather than unity for progress. However I have deep faith in the people of India they will finally choose the right path.
Grow up India!
This madness happens on both sides of the border. Imagine if Pakistani Hindus started to applaud for India in an Indo-Pak game !! The dislike is too deep-rooted to go away any time soon.
@goggi
First read your 7 -10th standard book of yours and then read Indian 1 after that make a conclusion that who seeding extremism in there upcoming generation.
Hindus in India have become Modi Cult.
@goggi (Lahore): true ....... so common in my college as well....... but u have earned it :D
kashmiris are provoking us every day now..... they need to understand that this constant pakistan cheering might well work in kashmir but they will be thrashed if they do that anywhere... of course majority of indians hate pakistan... there's no denying ...... no two way talk..... let those "aman ki asha" do their work... the fact remains majority of indians have animosity towards pakistan.....:)
now the indian trolls will descend to 'justify' this act.
1,27 Billion Indians and particularly over 8 hundred million Hindus learn in their primary education, that the origin of their religious and national identity lies in Pakistan.
Instead of developing a loving and spiritual attachment to the holy Indus and its people, the society teaches them blind hatred for us.
Nobody says in Pakistan when going to toilet, I am going to India. In India they often say when going to toilet, I am going to Pakistan!
No No, World is blind and Indians are kind!
Continued shamelessness in India about trying to keep Kashmiris loyal at gun point.
And Indians claim that they are not extremists, Wow!
Thanks to Qaid-e-Azam for creating Pakistan!!
Wow! Indians talk about being 'a tolerant' country...!
