Health and population experts and practitioners drafted a declaration at a gathering which called for extending maternal health coverage to all parts of the country through social franchising.
The declaration was the result of deliberations at a conference on “social franchising”, hosted by the Marie Stopes Society Pakistan, which concluded late Wednesday at Bhurban, informed a press release. The conference brought together key stakeholders to share experiences and exchange ideas on social franchising and its role in expanding healthcare and family planning services across Pakistan.
Former education minister and president of Heartfile Dr Sania Nishtar said that “population explosion was a big security threat to Pakistan.” Country Director Marie Stopes Dr Mohsina Bilgrami said that over 80 women die every day due to frequent pregnancies and different pregnancy-related complications.
