The announcement follows repeated threats from PTI’s senior leadership to resign from the government in protest against alleged rigging in last year’s parliamentary elections.
Rasheed announced that he had in his possession the resignations of 28 MPAs out of a total of 30 PTI MPAs in Punjab Assembly.
Earlier, he said that two MPAs, Nighat Intisar (Phindi Battian) and Muhammad Jahanzaib Khan Khichi (Rawalpindi), who had yet to hand their resignations to Rasheed, will do so today. Further, PTI MPA Masood Rabera (Okara district) has yet to decide whether to hand his resignation to Rasheed.
Rasheed submitted the resignations to Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal who will decide whether to formally accept them.
Earlier, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi submitted the resignations of PTI MNAs to the National Assembly on Friday in a bid to compel Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign from his post.
