RAWALPINDI: The city police on Tuesday detained 36 Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers for two weeks. Earlier on August 7, they had been granted bail by the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench. The police had arrested 53 PAT workers for creating a law and order situation outside Benazir Bhutto International Airport on June 23, when PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri was scheduled to land there. On Tuesday, when their family members tried to submit surety bonds for their bail, they were informed the police detained them for two weeks. The police said that decision was taken on the direction of the District Coordination Officer (DCO). Meanwhile, the police have decided to conduct a fresh crackdown against PAT workers in Rawalpindi and will keep an eye on workers planning to join the sit in.
