Sit-in repercussions: ‘Economic policies must not mix with politics’

KARACHI:

Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Acting President Shaukat Ahmed has shown concern over the present political turmoil in the country and stated that it had overshadowed all important economic issues of the country.

“The country’s leadership should be focusing on the economic issues of the country, like placement of Internally Displaced People (IDPs), building foreign exchange reserves, taking steps to control inflation and planning infrastructure development work,” he said in a statement.

He also lamented the growing severity of the energy crisis due to long interruptions in the supply of gas to the industry. He referred the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) report highlighting 30 per cent idle capacity in the textile sector.
