Representatives of the Islamabad Transporters’ Association have expressed concern over the delay in shifting of bus terminals from various areas to Sector I-11/4.
In 2011, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had approved a project for construction of bus stand in I-11/4 for shifting of terminals from Faizabad, G-9 Markaz and Pirwadhai. About 164 kanals was allocated for this purpose.
Islamabad Transporters and Passengers Welfare Association President Irfan Khan Niazi said that they had been sending reminders to the civic agency for shifting of bus stands but to no avail.
He said that in 2012, the CDA and the Islamabad Traffic Authority had submitted a compliance letter in the Lahore High Court of Rawalpindi bench for resolving the issue within two months.
He said that in 2013, the CDA board approved a plan for construction of a bus stand temporarily in I-11/4.
According to the plan, the transporters had to bear the construction expenditures while the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) was responsible for ensuring basic facilities including drainage system, water supply and security. He said that in January 2013 the civic agency changed the plan and it decided to construct bus stands for auction, but it was also not implemented.
He said that the association sent a last reminder to the civic agency on January 30, 2013 but since then no work on the project has been carried out.
He urged the CDA to resolve the issue at the earliest.
