LAHORE: Operations Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Haider Ashraf said on Sunday that police were doing their best to curb crimes in the city. He said that all divisional superintendents had been directed to maintain law and order. They have been asked to take immediate action against robbers, extortionists and those involved in kidnappings for ransom. The DIG said that all deputy superintendents and station house officers had been directed to arrange meetings with police officials and address their problems so that they could perform dedicatedly. Ashraf said police officials had been directed to set up pickets at specified city locations and enhance patrolling to help check crime. The officer said those serving the Police Department with courage and honesty would be rewarded. Action would be initiated against corrupt and inefficient policemen, Ashraf said. The DIG said credit went to the police officials who had been protecting political rallies and sit-ins round the clock.
