KARACHI: A director-general (DG) of Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) was deprived of his official car at gunpoint by unidentified armed men on Saturday, reported the Aziz Bhatti police. “DG Muhammad Shafiq was buying household essentials from a market near Baitul Mukarram Masjid in Gulshan-e-Iqbal when three armed men held him hostage and took him with them in his car,” said DSP Nasir Lodhi. “Later, they dropped him off at Sohrab Goth and escaped with the car.” A case has not been registered as Shafiq told the police that his department’s officials were trying to trace the car via their tracking system. Nonetheless, the police have been alerted to trace and recover the car and arrest the culprits.
