Safe and sound: Police recover missing newborn

Superintendent Abdullah Niazi said police had taken action against the suspects after receiving a complaint

FAISALABAD: Mamu Kanjan police claimed on Thursday to have recovered a newborn that had been allegedly abducted and sold by a midwife in collusion with a doctor from a government hospital and another woman. Hashim Ali, the father of the baby, said he was indebted to the police for recovering the newborn and taking action against the culprits. Saddar division Superintendent Abdullah Niazi said police had taken action against the suspects after receiving a complaint from the victims. He said police had arrested Kausar Bibi, the midwife, in a raid at her clinic. Niazi said Bibi had confessed to selling the infant for Rs150,000 and had revealed that the baby could be recovered from a house in Satiana. He said police had raided the premises and had recovered the newborn. He said police were conducting further raids to nab the remaining culprits who had gone underground fearing arrest.
