KARACHI: Pakistani table tennis players, including Rameez Khan, are happy with the six-day coaching clinic being sponsored by the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) for the participants of South Asian Juniors and Cadets Table Tennis Championship to be held at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Complex, Islamabad from August 27-29.

South Korean Ms Yang Young Ja is conducting the clinic, which started on Wednesday and is being organised at the boxing gymnasium of the PSB’s sports complex.

The Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) has nominated former international players Irfanullah and Loiza Irshad as instructors to assist the foreign coach during the training sessions.

“We are receiving a different kind of preparation and training programme from the South Korean coach, which is necessary for the participants in order to perform well in international events,” Rameez told The Express Tribune.

“The type of training we are receiving from the foreign coach is different to what we regularly get in our clubs. Our coaches are assisting and helping us to understand the training provided by Yang.”

Meanwhile, the national team’s former coach Arif Khan said, “We’ve had Korean coaches in Karachi previously and they did a very good job with the juniors, with Pakistan winning three titles in 2008 as a result of that training.”

The participants of the Nepal and Pakistan teams attended the two sessions on the first day of clinic as they were the only ones present on the venue that day.

“All other teams including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India will be arriving in Islamabad on Thursday, while Maldives will reach on August 25,” said PTTF Secretary Kifayatullah Khan.

He added that the Korean expert is working on modern technique including aggressive and attacking style of play.
