Taking notice of the self-immolation attempt by a rickshaw driver a day earlier, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister on Monday asked the IGP to launch an enquiry into the incident. Sulaiman, 22, reportedly tried to set himself on fire after he was fined Rs200 by a traffic warden in Charsadda. Sulaiman said the rickshaw he drove was rented and he could not afford to pay the sum. When the police tried to impound his vehicle, Sulaiman set himself on fire at Farooq-e-Azam Chowk and sustained severe injuries as a result. Fortunately, people nearby rescued him and took him to a hospital. In a handout, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak directed the police department to arrange for the complete treatment of Sulaiman and also provide financial assistance.
