GILGIT: Two policemen and a suspect who went missing last week were found dead in a ravine in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Ghizer Valley, around 120 kilometres from Gilgit.

Policemen Zahid Hussain and Obaidullah were on their way with a suspect, Akbar, when all three men went missing.

The policemen were heading to Gahkuch, headquarters of Ghizer district, from Singul after arresting Akbar when they were shot dead by unidentified assailants. Akbar, a resident of Diamer, was accused of killing his cousin.

“A police team has started investigation and we are hopeful the perpetrators will soon be put behind bars,” a police official told The Express Tribune on Monday.

News about Akbar and the policemen’s disappearance reached the police after nearly 24 hours due to poor communication facilities. Police then dispatched a search party which ultimately found the bodies of the three men in Sarga ravine of Singul area on Sunday.

“We don’t want to speculate on who is behind this triple murder, but we are pretty sure things will come to the fore very soon,” said the police official.
