Joining hands: Lahore chamber jumps on the bandwagon

Says it will not pay heed to calls that could hurt the economy.

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) also jumped on the bandwagon, rejecting the call for civil disobedience and terming it a conspiracy to derail the economy.

A resolution to this effect was passed on Monday at a meeting attended by representatives of 20 major trade and industry associations of Lahore.

LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari said there was no justification for giving the call for civil disobedience as the step was always taken to protest against foreign occupation and there was no such situation in Pakistan.

“The situation being faced by the country did not warrant such an extreme action on the part of those who are staging a protest in Islamabad rather they should have urged people to pay more taxes to make the country stronger in economic terms.”

Lashari added all issues could be resolved through talks, therefore, the protesting parties should adopt the same path for an early solution to the issues.

He declared that the business community, being patriotic Pakistanis, would never pay any heed to such calls that could damage the country’s economy. He appealed for the immediate withdrawal of the call for civil disobedience to avert economic disaster in the country.

The LCCI president argued that it was beyond comprehension why the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leadership would take such an extreme step at a time when the government had already expressed its willingness to listen to their points of view.

Meanwhile, LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah and Vice President Kashif Anwar pointed out that it would take a long time to recover the loss caused to the economy by the two long marches.
