LOWER DIR:

Four people, including a woman and children, drowned when a pickup fell into Swat River in Lower Dir on Saturday. So far, bodies of three of the deceased have been recovered.

A Chakdara police official said a woman and her three children were en route from Sogyar to Chakdara in a pickup vehicle. He added that the driver, Zurawar Khan, lost control of the vehicle on the way due to an unspecified technical fault.

The official said that as a result, the pickup skidded off the road and plunged into the river. He added that nearby residents and divers rescued a child, whose name could not be ascertained, while the bodies of Kabir Khan’s wife and daughter along with the driver were recovered. The body of one of the girls, Asma, is still missing.

Police registered an FIR of the incident and the search for Asma’s body is under way.
