Mushtaq Ali Shah, director of the meteorological office in Peshawar, said the rain lasted for only one hour and 30 minutes – from 4 pm to 5:30 pm – but caused so much damage as 42mm of precipitation was recorded in the city.
“At least seven children were injured when the roof of a seminary in Akhunabad collapsed, and we shifted them to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH),” Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Faizi told The Express Tribune. However, four of them succumbed to their injuries. Moreover, more than five houses and two walls collapsed inside the city.
The downpour lashed Peshawar, causing massive traffic jams as water started collecting on the roads within the hour. Trees were also uprooted, adding to the chaos.

Unlike other people who made comments here, I am not interested to talk about about politic. I am just curious how could that rain and storm killed 16 people and injured 80. Is it because the rain and storm were too strong?. Or because the Peshawar buildings are not good in quality which caused many of them collapsed?.
The fake outrage of darbaris here is hilarious. This seems to be another Malalla moment for the Non League trolls to try to put a spin on a calamity to earn political points. Pathetic!
@Aysha M: @Malveros: @Khalid: @Ch. Allah Daad: @Aalia: Looks like the haters are up early this morning
@Khalid: Pls 'residents' of Peshawar, not 'citizens' of Peshawar, have mercy, things not too bright anyway
16 people die in KPK because of bad weather and IK gets all the heat. Yet Sharif's government fails to answer the calls of the thousands that die in Punjabi villages due to the lack of sanitation and proper healthcare because the little tax money and aid our country accumulates goes straight into PML-N's pockets, if not into their Swiss bank accounts and hair transplants of course... seems legit
@Malveros: @Aysha M: @common man: @Khalid: @Aalia: Dear All, THE CM KPK came back to and straight to Peshawar as soon as he heard the news and I don't know why the Media didn't say anything about it, I met his adviser last night. Either the media was not allowed to cover this by the Government (i-e Sharif). Now this is pathetic as this is Negative Politics. Shame on Sharif and his supporting.
18 people dead in kpk due to rains while badshah salamat Imran Khan is spending night at his Banigala palace after ditching Anarchy march followers rot n spend night on the road while his party's kpk CM with all his official protocol spent his night at Kpk house in Islamabad.
Truly sharaamnaak is'nt it..?
IK himself left his PTI to drown on the streets of Islamabad in heavy rains, while he relaxes in his grand palace at bani gala. Why should CM care whether people in KPK live or die?
When there is a crisis/disaster in Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif goes on a tour abroad, when there is a disaster in KPK, Imran Khan goes to Islamabad. Not much difference between the two
Where is CM KPK ? He is abusing protocol by using driver and SUV from KPK Govt for political shows in Islamabad. Why isn't he sleeping with the masses on the streets of Islamabad ? Why hasn't he returned to Peshawar to take control of the damage done by rain ?
@Ch. Allah Daad: Please accept my apologies in advance but control your desire for nitpicking and STOP being petty, please. Thanx and Salams
Where is the 90 day man,his young CM and his governance, all missing in action
During and after all this disaster the government of KPK, the CM and his cabinet, are in Azadi march and will remain there for as long as their KAPTAN conquers Islamabad. Can somebody tell me who is ruling this province. From my side the CM should have sent all the supporters of tehrik e insaf to fight the battle for their KAPTAN but he along with his cabinet should have stayed back to run the province. just a week ago their was a meeting of national security and most of the issues discussed were pertaining to operation in waziristan and the IDPs but nobody represented KPK as the chief minister chose not to attend it because Imran khan is not happy with Nawaz Sharif. Is this the way a province is governed? Tehrik e insaf you failed to give insaf to those who elected you. KPK is giving a bleaker picture than what it was before you came in power. No matter how you plead your case but seeing is believing.
Don't worry citizens of Peshawar, CM KPK and the entire cabinet is sleeping in KPK House, Islamabad after coming to Islamabad to toppled the federal government, with security protocol, ambulance, fire tenders in tow.
Proud and honorable people of Peshawar should not expect any help from their elected representatives because great leader of those representatives have also abandoned his supporters at the mercy of weather and has gone for rest in his palace. Shame on those who cannot make proper arrangements for few thousand people.
and KPK Chief Minister is busy in Islamabad. This is what they do to their voters!
This is devastating and i'm extremely sad to see that government of KPK is investing huge chunks of money elsewhere while it needs to be invested in KPK. Unfortunately, the priorities of PTI have shifted due to its struggle for the throne of Pakistan and I apologize to the people of KPK that they are witnessing greed for the throne when the efforts should had been directed for their betterment.
