Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Dr Sarfraz Bashir said that three projects, including Business and Commerce Centre (BCC), the Sialkot Tannery Zone (STZ) and the Sports Industry Development Centre, will be completed within a year.
“The BCC is a unique project for the business community of Sialkot and it will be completed in collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) and the Punjab government,” said Bashir in an exclusive interview.
“These projects will promote business activity in Sialkot.”
The SCCI chief added that Planning and Development Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal showed interest to constitute the centre under the supervision of SCCI. He said that BCC will have offices, displays, exhibition halls, conference rooms and arrangements for accommodations for foreign customers.
“The STZ is aimed to gather tanneries at one place. It would have water treatment facility, which is essential for tanneries to purify water waste,” said the SCCI president.
Dr Sarfraz added that land was acquired near the Sialkot airport where development charges will be paid by the industrialists. He said that the Punjab government and the United Nations were supporting the SCCI for the project.
“The SIDC has been working on a trial basis but will actively start production within a year,” said Bashir.
“The facility will introduce an international standard thermo-lamented football facility.”
He concluded by saying that it was a common facility centre for all exporters, where they could manufacture their demands as per international standards. “The SIDC will
be equipped with modern machinery approved by exporters according to their needs.”
