People in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) observed India’s Independence Day as a ‘black day’.
A joint anti-India rally organised by religious and political parties of the region was taken out from the press club here to United Nations Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) on Friday.
The protest rally was headed by AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed and leaders of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) AJK chapter. The protesters raised slogans against the Indian occupation of Kashmir.
While addressing the protesters, Majeed said Kashmiris were peace-loving people. He said that civilians were being killed in Indian-held Kashmir in fake encounters and military crackdowns. The AJK prime minister said serious human rights violations were being committed by Indian security forces.
While criticising the marches organised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Majeed called Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri power-hungry.
He said that Kashmiris had great respect for Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif who supported the right of self-determination of the people of Kashmir.
Leaders belonging to the APHC, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamaatud Dawah also addressed the rally.
Majeed and other party leaders presented a memorandum to UNMOGIP officials urging the UN secretary general to use his office for the settlement of the longstanding dispute that had put peace and security of South Asia at stake.

@Rishabh Jain: "I hope sense dawns on us sometime in the future." Apparently, there is at least one on whom sense has dawned - Rishabh Jain. God Almighty be thanked! @Haider: "@someone Even if 1000 years pass….Kashmiries wont gain respect for Indians and its governments" More tha 1300 years have passed and the world has not gained respect for Muslims. Do Muslims care? No! Well, neither do Indians! @Pity: "Even if India tries for another 68 years, it will not be able to prevent Kashmiri people from struggling for independence." Struggle is good for the soul. They should keep on struggling! It will do them only good.
The comments on this page, LOL! Such a display of immaturity from both sides! That's why nothing gets resolved.
Wouldn't we be better off discussing how to treat our citizens better. Whether it be Indians, Pakistanis, Kashmiris or Non-Kashmiris, no one is happy with the current situation and we all, not one, but all are to blame.
I hope sense dawns on us sometime in the future.
Even if 2500 years passes, India will remain plus or minus some people. Dunno about pakistan
@someone Even if 1000 years pass....Kashmiries wont gain respect for Indians and its governments
@Pity: You should see it in other perspective as well. Even if it is another 786 years, no one can take Kashmir away from India.
Even if India tries for another 68 years, it will not be able to prevent Kashmiri people from struggling for independence.
