QUETTA: A Frontier Corps (FC) personnel was killed and another was injured after their patrolling vehicle was bombed in the Saryab area of Quetta Thursday morning.

“An FC man was killed, while another is critically wounded,” senior police officer Imran Qureshi told The Express Tribune.

The FC vehicle was on routine patrol on the troubled Saryab Road, known as Gaza strip amongst the locals, when it was attacked with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which was planted along the road in the Sharifabad area of Saryab. “The militants detonated the IED by remote control,” Qureshi said, adding that the vehicle was damaged in the explosion.

More troops and police rushed to the spot after the blast and cordoned it off. The dead and injured were shifted to the FC hospital, Quetta.

The explosion was heard within a two-kilometre radius, and caused window panels of nearby shops to shatter.

This was the third bomb attack in Quetta in two days.

Earlier, two flag shops were bombed, injuring 22 people, some of them critically.

Baloch separatists often target security forces and shops selling national flags in many parts of Balochistan and usually intensify their attacks close to and during Independence Day.

However, no one has yet claimed responsibility for the latest attack.

The Government needs to control the flow of the dangerous materials used to make these explosives.
